some stuff

i've pretty much scrapped my hourly goal...no way in hell that i actually get it. i think that anyone who actually reads this shitty blog has come to the realization that i rarely achieve my hourly goals (which is pathetic). the sad thing is, that was one of the reasons why i really made this blog...no, not to seek attention from the world, but to keep myself accountable. it's sad to think that i can't keep myself focused enough to ever really acheive these goals of mine. to be frank and honest though, i've actually enjoyed playing alot more when i do decide to play. i also find that i play better when motivated, so i think i'll just stick with this method in regards to playing.

probably won't make a ton this month. i've played less than 10k hands, laughably. i've been coaching a fair amount this month, which has been great. i enjoy teaching and helping others. i did play alot of PLO during this month and it was pretty nice...didn't run fantastic, but still ran well enough.

School has been going meh overall. My schedule is pretty soft in general, primarily due to me skipping lots and lots of History of Jazz. Geology is pretty queer and I have to do a project for it this coming week. Spanish sucks my ass... although it's an online class, i still despise it. words cannot describe how much i hate it. and i still have a few more courses to go. the sick thing is, i was .5 semesters away in high school (dropped out second sem of spanish 4) from not ever having to take it in college. wish they would've told me how big of a dumbass i am/was.

i've been slacking on my reading lately. I'm currently reading 'World Without Us', a book about how the earth would be if humans disappeared tomorrow. It's pretty interesting, and I enjoy alot of the post-apoc stuff, so I'm enjoying this book. I'm pretty backed up in general though and have alot of different books that I want to read.

I've also had a chance to see a few different movies lately. With all the awards coming out, I thought I should see some of the films to form an opinion on some of the nominees.

Benjamin Button- story of a man who is born as an 80 year old and gets younger physically as he gets older. sortve a strange movie. I didn't mind it, thought it was decent. some of the scenes and visuals were well done, and the music was pretty good. overall though, i didn't really think much of it...it was a film that seemed like it wanted to be a forest gump like epic, but fails. there weren't enough 'event's to really make benjamin button's life interesting to me. maybe it's because i don't really like romance, which is heavily involved in this movie. meh, overall, not bad, maybe worth a watch, i'm not going to see it again though.

gran torino- hilarious flick about clint eastwood (super hardass korea vet) who is super racist towards asians and everyone else. a story about a man overcoming his beliefs. i really enjoyed this and think its well worth a watch.

slumdog millionaire- movie about a kid who wins on 'who wants to be a millionaire' in mumbai. it's clearly impossible that a slumdog kid could know all the answers to the questions so he's taken by the police. the movie cycles through his life as he goes through each answer. i thought this movie was pretty good, well worth a watch. reminded me of city of god in some ways. definitely a fun one though.

the wrestler- movie about a down on his luck wrestler who tries to make a comeback. really fantastic acting by rourke imo, he makes the character seem very believable. he struggles to find his identity through family (strained relationship w/ daughter), potential love (a stripper he frequently visits), and his failing career/health. overall a good movie.

Overall I enjoyed gran torino most on a personal level (just bc i thought it was fucking hilarious) though slumdog mightve been the best 'movie' perse. i'm excited for a few movies to come out, namely 'watchmen' (i'm a comic nerd fwiw). wolverine movie looks cool as well.

anyways, i'd like to add some more things (ie. thoughts on CFB/books/MMA (not that i'm an expert just like to talk about it)/etc) but i'm tired. just finished the first season of dexter and it was pretty cool, check it out. (premise is he is a serial killer who is also a forensic scientist. he kills 'bad guys' and has a code to satiate his hunger to kill) while working for the police. a pretty cool fun show.

school starts/life/etc

second semester started, its pretty meh overall. my classes are all going to be fairly easy, with the exception of one of my history classes (i have to do a ton of research for this queer 15-20 pager that I have to do by the end). i've decided that i'm not going to go to any of my history of jazz classes either- all my friends said its pointless and just to do the study guide questions in the book. so i'll just not go until my first test and see how it goes (trial and error ftw!).

school overall sort've blows. i'm ready to be done i think, ready to try new things. while poker hasn't been as profitable for me as it was in the past (mainly due to running bad/playing bad/not playing at all), and i hope to somehow reclaim that passion.

HERE is a cool post that I have similar feelings with. While I haven't quite won $300k the past few years (LOL volume/taxes), I can definitely feel some of the same feelings that he has. As I've said in the past, I've never really been a true grinder (other than when I first started playing). I envy those people like shpanko and jongreenway/ZeKGB/etc. They beat the game well for a reason, if not just for pure volume (you obviously get yourself into more situations when playing more hands, and adjusting/seeing those situations prepare you better for the future).

When I was taking my history class the other day, my professor was describing what it really means to be a 'historian' (this class was a core class for history majors, mainly focused on research/etc). I dunno, a history degree is pretty useless in most cases I think. Only really did it because my main option (secondary ed) didn't work out. A 'historian' just doesn't seem right either...it's like a title only reserved for professors and those people doing field work (interviewing people about x event/etc). Not really sure what I'll be doing for a career, but meh...this is one such regret I have about playing poker- sure it's given me a great lifestyle and enabled me to pay my bills, but how is it going to feel when I have to go into a desk job for 40 hours a week grinding it out for $40 an hour, if that? I almost feel as if I can't do it, be it from my experiences with poker or my personality- I'd much rather be making scraps and loving my job than doing something I hate for a little more.

Also have to figure out my summer plans, along the same vein. I'm sure I want to travel post graduation, and this summer as well. I'm thinking Thailand, I hear that it's crazy fun (especially with all the SSNL guys there, bastards). For spring break my friends and I are planning on going to South Padre island near Texas (march 15th?-22nd). Should be a blast.

Updates/UF winning/etc

sup guys, sorry I havent updated in a while. I've been fairly lazy in terms of pokering/getting any work done for that matter.

For those who didn't tune in, UF won on thursday, beating OU 24-14. It was a pretty good game, really quite unexpected for the most part. The teams were tied at 7-7 at half, stunning for teams who average a combined 100+ points a game. The defenses really ruled the field as both D-lines played great. The trip started off pretty shitty as I missed my connection in Detroit and was forced to spend the night there (just stayed up all night in Detroit aiport). I played my RTS game and had some japs rallying around me watching, that was hilarious. Miami had some great weather and it was an average of 80 or so throughout the week.

Unfortunately our hotel was full of OU fans. I think I only saw about 10 or so Gators present, which was disappointing. The shuttle to the game consisted of about 12 OU fans and my friend and I. There was alot of trash talk before the game and those ignorant inbreds had posters and such making fun of Florida. I also asked them what they'd do if they lost the game and the very idea was foreign to them. My degen nature almost presented a bet proposal but I controlled myself.

The game as a whole was a good one. As stated, the defenses really stepped up for both teams. Tebow and UF OL/option game took over in the fourth quarter and broke away.

Overall, a pretty fun event. I sortve wish I could have stayed in Miami longer but meh, whatever.

Poker has been going meh overall. I deposited into a new site and have been trying out new games. Probably failing on my hourly goal but hopefully I'll be able to get back on track.

School starts tomorrow, I'm taking 13 credits with UNL and 7.5 through Metro (Spanish). I'm taking an array of gay classes, none of which I really enjoy (or expect to enjoy). I have this queer Jazz class I have to take three times a week, we'll see how long that fares. Other such classes include short story (a BS english class where you have to learn idiotic writing theory instead of actually just writing), a history class (queer required history class), and a retard geology class, which should be a joke. Overall a pretty stupid schedule.

I went to the gym for the first time tonight, should be the first step in me getting my fatass back in order. Eating should be better as well and I need to get that back on track as well.

Anyways, time to go to bed soon, I have to get up early (where early = earlier than 12 noon) for gay Jazz. Everybody should go see the movie 'Gran Torino', a fucking hilarious flick with Clint Eastwood. Basic premise is about a crazy old hardass Korean vet that doesn't take shit from anyone. That's about it.

Playing awful

Well, as per my resolution, I would become rededicated to my game. I've been playing godawful the last two days, relying on aggression and ridiculous idiotic call downs instead of calculated hand reading and other such processes. As I've said in the past, I have a tilt problem that has hurt my game. I am currently experiencing a 10 bi downer in less than 3k hands at 1/2. Part of this has to do with me playing deep stacked (some hands to come) and losing a few 200bb stacks there compounds itself.

I've been playing very bad. Making very marginal calls preflop, post, etc. I'm going to post a few bitching/whiney hands and also some embarrassing hands as well.

This one pissed me off...he was a 'tag' and instaleft. I did just run numbers with tannenj (and the first time I've ever done this) and it's just about a breakeven play if he's never up against AA/KK. But to discount it to this degree is just ludacris, and I'm typically going to be showing up with KK+ here.

Pretty ridiculous but meh, whatever. I think his flop bet + sizing is pretty poor as well, but meh.

Eh, I change my mind, I don't want to search through other PT hands and convert/explain. I've been playing godawful and not running too great either.

I'm debating moving $ to another site to change venue. Not that FTP is too difficult (or at least yet), but meh. Anyways, might go to the casino tonight, we'll see. 2 days until the NC game hollaaaa
